At Rūnanga School, we are deeply committed to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and ensuring its principles are woven into our daily school life. We celebrate and embrace te reo Māori and tikanga Māori not as an add-on, but as an integral part of who we are as a learning community. Each morning, our tamariki begin the day with our school karakia, grounding ourselves in a shared sense of purpose and belonging, followed by a beautiful waiata that sets a warm and connected tone for the day ahead.
In Terms 2 and 3, we are privileged to welcome Whaea Chloe, our dedicated Kapa Haka teacher, who works with both our junior and senior class to nurture their understanding and love of waiata, kapa haka, and te reo Māori. Through her guidance, our tamariki grow in confidence, cultural pride, and connection to their heritage. At Rūnanga School, we believe that upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi means creating a space where all children see te ao Māori reflected and celebrated every single day — not just in what we learn, but in how we live and learn together.
