Tēnā koutou, warm greetings and welcome to Rūnanga School
As principal, it gives me great pleasure to introduce you to our wonderful school, nestled just 8km north of Greymouth. At Rūnanga School, we are more than just a place of learning - we are a family where every child is understood, valued, and supported to reach their full potential.
Our school is built on the belief that strong, nurturing relationships are the foundation of all meaningful learning. We create a safe and caring environment where children from Year 1 to Year 8 can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We celebrate diversity and recognise that every learner is unique, with their own strengths, interests, and ways of understanding the world.
Our staff bring a wealth of experience, creativity, and aroha to their work each day. From our teaching team who inspire curiosity in the classroom, to our support staff who ensure our school runs smoothly, each member plays a vital role in your child's educational journey. Our team is committed to upholding the values of our school and we foster a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom walls.
Our teaching team uses a thoughtful blend of direct instruction, inquiry-based learning, and play to engage our tamariki. While we embrace digital technologies where appropriate, we place equal importance on developing the social, physical, and intellectual skills that will serve our students throughout their lives. Every learning experience is designed to be developmentally appropriate and engaging.
As a PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) school, our values—We Learn, We Care, We Show Respect—are woven into everything we do. These values guide our interactions and help create a positive school culture where everyone feels they belong.
We are proud to be a KidsCan school and participate in both the Fruit in Schools and Lunch in Schools programmes, ensuring every child has access to fresh fruit daily and nutritious meals at no cost to families.
We pride ourselves on building strong relationships with our students and their families, working together in partnership to help each child reach their full potential. It is extremely uplifting to see and feel the support from our whānau and the community. Our parents and the community volunteer their time and energy, enriching our students' learning experiences, supporting with our large school grounds and demonstrating the power of working together. We have recently set up our own school PTA, with our first fundraiser being a huge success.
I invite you to visit us anytime to experience first-hand the warmth, energy, and excitement that makes Rūnanga School such a special place. Whether you're a prospective family or a returning whānau member, you'll always find a friendly welcome when walking through our doors.
Please don't hesitate to reach out – we have an open-door policy and welcome the opportunity to connect with you. Alternatively, pop in, and one of our members of staff would be happy to show your around.
We look forward to working alongside you as we guide your child through their primary school years.
Ngā mihi,
Jessica Lees
